First 30 days

• Day 1-3: Quiet arrival, one safe space (crate or pen), a toilet routine every hour or two and after sleep, meals and play.
• Vet visit in week 1: Health check, vaccinations and worming plan, and a conversation about flea and tick control for your area.
• Microchip and council registration: Required in most Australian states and territories. Check your state and local council rules.
• Socialisation: Ask your vet what is safe before the vaccination course is complete. Controlled, positive introductions to people and sounds matter more than quantity.
• Start brushing early: Short, happy daily sessions with a comb and slicker brush, and handling of paws, ears and face. Groodle coats can mat quickly as the puppy coat changes to the adult coat.
• Sleep: Puppies need lots of it. Enforce naps in the crate.

Grooming

Start with the comb and slicker daily, working down to the skin and not just over the top. Check behind ears, armpits and collar areas where matting starts. Wash only as needed with a dog shampoo, and dry the coat fully. A groomer can show you the clip style and keep ears clear; ask your vet about ear care if your dog is prone to ear trouble. Deshedding tools are generally not for non-shedding coats; ask a groomer before buying one.

Training

Groodles are often people-oriented and keen to please. Use reward-based training: sit, drop, name recall, settling on a mat, and calm greetings. Jumping up is common; teach “four on the floor” early. Puppy preschool run by a qualified trainer is a good start; see our training directory.

• Ticks: In paralysis tick regions (generally the east coast), check by feel every day, especially head, neck, ears and chest. Long coats make this harder, so some owners trim. Ask your vet.
• Heat: Dense coats can hold heat. Exercise at cooler times, provide shade and water, and never leave a dog in a parked car.
• Snakes: In warm months, keep your dog on lead in bush, long grass and near water. If you suspect a snake bite, keep the dog still and call your vet immediately.
